After finishing Shantaram in German (3/5), I ran a story on my Instagram asking my followers for German fiction recommendations. I have received several responses for good novels and promised I will share the results with everyone.

Here is the list of book recommendations:

My recommendations:

  • Herr Lehmann by Sven Regener (Set in Kreuzberg, West Berlin, in the months just before the Wall fell in 1989. A story of a bartender drifting through his daily life. It was adapted into a film, which I haven’t seen.)
  • For everyone learning German: Le grand cahier (Das große Heft) by Ágota Kristóf, it’s a very weird but interesting book narrated by kids, so it’s an easy read (Slavoj Žižek’s article about it).

Thank you, everyone!
