Last year, I created this page in the traditional SEO manner, thinking, “Ok, great, gonna rank on Google and be a great resource,” but now I have decided to radically simplify.

Now it only includes spaces I’ve visited and would recommend. In short, all of them will do their job of getting you out of your home.

After talking to many of my community members, what matters the most is the location. Having a choice, most people don’t want to commute for an hour. Click here for the map.

Another thing that matters is the sense of belonging. This matters most if you don’t have a team here. “Just” working in a space and not having anyone to lunch with sucks, unless that’s your thing.

Last but not least: comfort. The spaces range from basic to fancier, with prices to match. Some also offer access in other countries or continents.

I recommend you test the location by arranging a test visit. Almost all of the spaces will also be happy to sell you a day pass. I run group coworking sessions where we test spaces together. Join here: luma.com/handpicked.

Coworking spaces

werkhain

Frankfurter Allee 108/Fabrikgebäude 2. Hof, 10247 Berlin
https://www.werkhain.de

A new player in town in the Friedrichshain area, a great choice for everyone living in the eastern part of town. Cosy interiors designed with a lot of care (even the toilets have a theme). Every single desk is height-adjustable, and the team is putting lots of effort into organising community events. They pre-screen everyone before approving their membership.

betahaus

Rudi-Dutschke-Straße 23, 10969 Berlin
https://www.betahaus.com

More than one location in Berlin.

One of Berlin’s coworking space institutions with a welcoming staff and a strong focus on solopreneurs/freelancers. They invest a lot into communities, hosting events, internal and external. One of the strongest communities in town. They also have locations outside Germany.

Techspace

Köpenicker Straße 40B, 10179 Berlin
https://www.techspace.co/locations/eiswerk

More than one location in Berlin.

Relatively fresh in Berlin, directly from the UK. Top-notch and very welcoming local team. Their primary focus are tech scaleups. The atmosphere at the Eiswerk location is great with a great cafe and a terrace. Perfect for small teams that want to expand.

Motion.Lab Berlin

Bouchéstraße 12, 12435 Berlin
https://motionlab.berlin

A massive location in Alt-Treptow, very techy/hands-on environment. A small but great team with regular community events. It could be a bit loud for a hot desk, but it is a great location for anyone who needs access to machinery and the machinery ecosystem. Extremely strong builder vibes with lots of events.

Industrious

Eichhornstraße 3, 10785 Berlin
https://www.industriousoffice.com

More than one location in Berlin.

A new premium player in town with nicely designed spaces. This also means accommodating, proactive and responsive local team. You will be able to catch a lot of sun at their Potsdamer Platz location. They do a lot for their customers, which will also impress anyone visiting you.

Mindspace

Krausenstraße 9-10, 10117 Berlin
https://www.mindspace.me/berlin

More than one location in Berlin.

A more premium space with great interior design: sometimes it feels like a cosy living room. They are also a well-run machine, very responsive and great vibes with a good mixture between office spaces and hot desks. They do lots of events, also with external partners.

The Delta Campus

Donaustraße 44, 12043 Berlin
https://thedelta.io/campus/berlin

One of the newest players in town. Their Neukölln campus is massive, with a big food court on the opposite side and will even have a pool on the rooftop. A lot of space for events, coworking, and workshops. They also have a gym and a bike garage. Their focus is on supporting the Berlin startup ecosystem (eg. with their BAD1 initiative) and also investing a lot in their own events to build up the community of founders and entrepreneurs.

Impact Hub Berlin

Rollbergstraße 28A, 12053 Berlin
https://berlin.impacthub.net

Great (international) community and on-site team. The space feels very warm (maybe even opposite to the standard Berlin mood?), and you can actually feel their sustainability focus. A lot of space for flexible working and exchange. Great for professionals working on climate tech and sustainability initiatives with lots of community events, accelerator projects and initiatives.

workish.berlin

Harzer Straße 39, 12059 Berlin
https://workish.berlin/

An independent and bootstrapped green space in Neukölln, run by Taylor and Lenny with a great community spirit of artists and makers. It’s next to the 42 Campus with lots of students and a great canteen nearby. They do a lot of things themselves (phone booths!) and offer a lot of tools and spaces for creatives (from 3D printers to studio setups).

Soho House Berlin

Torstraße 1, 10119 Berlin
https://sohohouse.com/houses/soho-house-berlin

A famous worldwide institution with a great coffee bar and shop downstairs, where you can also sit with your laptop without a membership. The coworking space just below the rooftop has more of “let’s have a meeting and look cool while having it” vibes. It’s more for drinks/hangout than work. Some people adore the crowd, some don’t. Your mileage may vary.

cocreation loft

Schinkestraße 9, 12047 Berlin
https://www.cocreationloft.com

Tomas Björkman’s coworking space uses a membership system where current members vote on new applicants. Once accepted, you get keys to the loft with access to all facilities: meeting rooms, event space, podcast studio, and an amazing rooftop in Neukölln. It’s one of the most tightly knit communities I’ve visited.

WeWork

Warschauer Platz 11-13, 10245 Berlin
https://www.wework.com/de-DE/search?slug=berlin

More than one location in Berlin.

One of the premium choices. I was surprised how busy both Berlin locations (Warschauer Platz and Rosenthaler) I visited were. The main advantage of WeWork is its worldwide scope, meaning you will be able to work almost anywhere. The energy is great, also because it’s full. As one of the members told me, everything simply works.

CIC Berlin

Lohmühlenstraße 65, 12435 Berlin
https://cic.com/de/berlin/

Cambridge Innovation Center took over the former Factory location near Görlitzer Park. They offer one of the largest locations in Berlin with big weekly events (Venture Café) and are also positioning themselves as an innovation campus operator. Extremely strong community with access to all CIC locations worldwide.

Space Shack

Akazienstraße 3A, 10823 Berlin
https://www.space-shack.com

A cool space with a… fitting space theme. A good mixture between offices and hot/fixed desks, welcoming onsite staff and a great community space. Comes with occasional freebies and free Nespresso coffee. They also have a WhatsApp community for the members.

Which is the best coworking place in Berlin?

I can’t say, because I don’t know where you live and what your needs are. My suggestion is to go and try a couple and talk to the people. Because I mostly work alone, the biggest drawback of all the coworking spaces is that I don’t go to any often enough not to be “the guy that sits there and talks to nobody”. That’s why I often prefer to sit at home with my two extra screens. But, there is a way…

Group coworking is a great option, too!

Going to a coworking space as a part of a group is a fantastic solution for the “sitting there and not talking to anyone” problem. The concept is simple: you join a group and work with them for a day, usually having lunch together.

Besides the ones I organise myself (you can add yourself to this calendar to be notified: luma.com/handpickedberlin), I also like these two groups:

This concept works particularly well for remote employees, freelancers and solopreneurs.

There is another alternative: working in hotel lobbies

This is something I discovered this year. You simply go to a hotel lobby with a laptop, and nobody will really care, especially if you order a drink or two. If I get to try more, I will make a short overview. Currently my go-to hotel is Motel One at Alexanderplatz. This works great to have a working session with a friend, and I’ve also seen people using the lobby as a meeting space. It’s better than going to a random bar or a cafe.

Map of coworking spaces in Berlin

The map (also available here) will help you decide which coworking spaces are closest to your home. Use it to check commute times, nearby public transport options, and local amenities. Many professionals choose their coworking space based on location first - after all, even the coolest space isn’t worth a painful daily commute.
